In the case of this Bill passing, the whole of your business will be done away?—Except merely the granting of replevins, which is very trifling indeed.
Do you wish to make any observation to the Committee?—I only beg leave to state, that if the Act was not to pass, the fees of the office would be greater in succeeding years than in any year preceding, in consequence of the repeal of the stamp duties.
George Vanderzee, Esquire, called in; and Examined.
WHAT office do you hold?—Sworn clerk in the King's Remembrancer's office. Do you receive any fees in civil actions?—None; the proceedings are in equity between subject and subject.
Then supposing the County Courts Bill was passed into a law, it would not affect your office at all?—I am not aware that it would.
Would it affect any of the officers in the court of Exchequer?—I should think it might affect those on the plea side.
Mr. Charles Calley, called in; and Examined.
YOU act as a clerk to Mr. Smith?—Yes.
What office does Mr. Smith hold?—Clerk of the common bails and posteas. From what are the emoluments of Mr. Smith's office derived?—Upon filing common bails, swearing affidavits and marking posteas. The fees upon filing common bail are, 1 s. 6d; but four-pence of that goes to the judges, four-pence to the marshal, four-pence to the clerk of the common bails, and sixpence to my Lord Ellenborough as chief clerk of the court; the fee on the marking of posteas is sixpence.

Does he receive any emolument from actions above 15l?—No; common bail is not filed then; they file special bail in causes above 15l.
Can you tell what proportion of those causes are under 10l?—No; we do not know that in the office.
