§ The subject value of the subject matter
in question of the same denomination

instructive indication of the forms
of government in the nations at which
they respectively took place. Apply this
observation to silver in England which
Originally the pound weight of silver
& the pound which is so stiled in money
accounts were the same thing & contained
the same quantity of that same
precious metal. At present the
accountants pound as it may be
called contains no more than about
one-third of the actual pound. In France
the accountants pound contains
no more than about one-fiftieth
part of the actual pound weight.
