Question. How does promptitude is comprehensiveness dependent
upon promptitude? how does promptitude contribute
to comprehensiveness?

Answer. In this way. Such is the quantity of labour
and t Among the operations performed, and corresponding
results obtained, by the use of the sort of signs in question
many might be found, each of which is by this means finished within
the compass of a few hours, but which if words alone were
employed could not be performed in less than as many
days, weeks, months or even years, so that a few of them
would suffice to afford occupation to a whole life
and of the number of such arithmetical operations which at present
are performed and results obtained, all of them in some shape or other of
use not a tenth, not a hundredth or not a thousandth part
could be performed at all.
