The way to consider the question of profit seems to be by ascertaining the two following points.
1st The circumstances which give a value to land.
2nd The degree in which it is probable these circumstances will apply to the land of this Company.
First. the value of land is created altogether by Competition. The degree of value depends wholly on the degree of competition. Now on what depends the degree of competition? Precisely the degree of competition is governed by the proportion of people to land. This is so plain that I am unwilling to dwell on it.
