Paris May 12- 1791.

Hond Sir

Pardon I beg you my not having hitherto answered yours of the 8th
March which I received at Leghorn. Moving on continualy towards
you and not thinking I should make so many stops I scarcely
thought of writing to you till my arrival here. At Ld Gore's
I found another copy of your Leghorn letter which I suppose
you took the trouble to write from on the possibility of that one's
not finding me. At Leghorn I spent a fortnight: at Genoa
and at Turin a week each: but I must give two weeks to
this stage of Patriotism and dissipation: the latter however produces
little sensation on me; for though here it may be extended to
a greater number of persons, I am convinced that luxury is carried
to a greater higher pitch in Russia. The society of both sexes is
certainly excedingly pleasant particularly so for a short time. In Italy
the same: but though every place where I have stopt I have left
with regret and sometimes with difficulty on account of one
or two persons; yet were my means ever so great there is
no country I have seen or am at all informed about where
I would for any consideration fix myself but Russia or England.
