Euclid a treatise on form-
regarding quantity-learning —
his the first work extant
tho' the science practised
ages before him.
A treatise — a deductive work on what may be called unapplied
or say abstract quantity-learning is Euclids considered in
respect of what may be called the form-regarding branch of
it is Euclid's elements of geometry. On this branch This is the work of
earliest date extant. But of in the branches of art and science
of the sub-branches of what has been called in G language Posology in English
quantity-learning or quantity-regarding learning to which the matter
of Euclid's Elements was applicable and has since been applied
practice must have had place and been carried on in
Greece and elsewhere for may ages antecedent to the composition
of that elaborate and with reference to the present time now
original work

Land cultivation must
have preceded measuremt.
Action Operation without adequate motive, is effect without a
cause. A motive is the expectation of pleasure in this or that shape or of exemption from
pain in this or that shape, or from loss of life, the indisputable
substratum of pleasure in every shape. For the preservation of
life the practice of agriculture, the cultivation of land must
have preceded the measurement of it: and the actual measurement
of it by a rod must have preceded those what is called rules of trigonometry
by which it is shewn how of one or two this or that of the
boundaries of an individual and appropriate space the
dimensions may be ascertained, and described by verbal discourse
and by the graphical imitation stiled maps by a person
by whom at the time of the operation access to it can not be obtained
