-hibited.
1. The Bribe-taker shall be seated on the
stool of repentance, fast by the Pillar of Disgrace.
2. To the Pillar of Disgrace shall be applied
an iron bracket composed of parallel bars of
iron extending horizontally.
3. Upon this laid open bracket shall the hand
of the Bribe-taker be laid, open, the palm outwards,
the wrist and each finger tied down
to a corresponding bar of iron; in such manner as
not to be capable of gloving upon any thing that should be put into it.
4. the Bribe-taker shall be exhibited Bribe-
-giver, standing, in a stooping posture, his mouth close
to the ear of the Bribe-giver in the attitude of whispering.
5. One of his arms shall be leaning on the
shoulder of the Bribe-taker and fastened thereto in the hand of the other
arm and fastened to it shall be a purse of gold
hanging over and just touching the hand of the
Bribe-taker.
6. Should either of the actors be wanting, his place shall
be supplied by a wooden effigy.
Other representations might be added for diversifying
the scene and aggravating the ignominy. To the purse
of gold might be fastened a string which the executi-
-oner might be directed to pull up and down from time to time, so
as to make the money clink.
If the Bribery consisted in prostitution, instead of this purse of money the effigy of a woman might be employed
[[where] the Bribe-giver should be represented as introducing as the Bribe-taker.
