1819 Decr 21
Radicalism not dangerous

XXXV A. 1
Conclusion
1

1
This providing J.B.
not the better but the
worse. The stronger
the proof the more
intolerable the provocation:
the greater
his danger of being
dragged by the legal
mastiff to prison
there to die

§. Conclusion
A charge has been made a charge than which a more perfectly groundless, a more
palpably absurd one ever was or could be made — myriads are the direct objects, and with them
millions have been the
victims of it.

All this I shall prove: and when I have proved it, have proved: and now that
what shall am/shall I or is any one I be the better? for it? Instead of being the better More Too probably but so much
the worse. I still shall be so much the The stronger the
proof, the more intolerable the provocation: the provocation afforded to those w
against whom there is no security — whose will is their the only
law, and who, will the more highly they are provoked, will be but the more likely to set upon me
their legal black mastiff at me instrument, the upon m, and send drag me
into a prison there to finish what remains of life.

2
By subversion of the
Constitution nothing
is expressed but
the temper and design
of the speaker. What is Almost
treason today may
be quite treason tomorrow.
Judges to
decide, Crown Lawyers
to move, are secured
by the Constitution as
it stands.

(1)
Subversion of the Constitution security to English institution
almost treason treason — what made this more than a fear that
phrases — phrases compleatly void of all meaning other than
that by which the temper the disposition and designs of those by whom they are employed
is manifested. Almost treason today, it may be
quite treason tomorrow. Judges ready to decide this, Crown Lawyers
ready to call for this, all this is secured, and abundantly secured, by the Constitution
as it stands.

22 or 5
A government by which
such things may be, and are done, how can I love it without hating or being indifferent to those ruled by it?

(4)
If I Not to speak of Constitution for there is no
such thing — if I love a government under which such
things not only may can be done but are done I must not the how can I do so
same time but without hating or at least regarding with indifference the 16 or 17 million of human beings whose
misfortune it is to live under it. Can I do this? No.
but I can say I do so: and after the declaration, if
this will satisfy them I can to do so at my
time, and at all times. ][

21 or 4
Jury trial no security
persons being chosen not by
lot but by instruments
in the hands of prosecutors

(3)
have and at all times I Jury-trial? Yes. By Jury trial strict security, how imperfect so ever might be afforded to me, if Juries
were appointed by lot. But instead of being so, they are appointed by
this or that individual, who at all times may be an instrument in
the hands of the very persons against whose oppression the supposed security is provided. |

3
For killing me by
Soldiers or Yeoman
secured by pardon or
Noli prosequi, power
so provided by the Constitution
&c

(2)
If to do this by the form of law would be too much
trouble, what should hinder men in power, from with or without
the pretence of searching for treasonable or seditious matters, from
sending a soldier or an armed yeoman to put me to death?
The deed done, a pardon is granted or a Noli prosequi
follows. All This law is secured by the Constitution as it stands.
