March 1808
Audit Office Correspondence Lloyd for J.B. to Booth & Co

Letter written by J.B. in the name of and signed
by Mr John Lloyd to Messrs Booth and <sic>Co Sheffield
Park

Brewer's green Westminster 19 March 1808

Sir
Gentlemen

On Monday last being the 1th instant, on behalf and
at the desire of Mr Bentham I sent you a letter with
a form of a receipt inclosed requesting of you to
copy in<d/el> it on a piece of stampt paper inclosed along with
it, subject to such alterations, if any, as might be
necessary to fill up any omissions, or correct any mis-statements
that might be found in it.

We were in hopes of receiving an answer by this
day, if not by yesterday's post: we hope at any rate there
is already one upon the road. But, for fear of hindrance
it was judged necessary to trouble you with this
letter.

By a paper addressed to Mr Bentham on the
10th instant from the Commissioners of the Audit Office, and
signed Richard Whitcomb Chief Inspector he was
called upon to return on or before Monday next (the
25th instant) the documents therein called for, among which
was the receipt for which we were obliged to l apply to
you, as above: with a notice that in future the Account
will be closed, omitting the articles which in that case
will be deemed vouched, in unless case of him explaining
to the Board the cause of failure. In consequence
if no from you be the cause it will be necessary for him on that day to write send a letter to the
Board, stating the application made to you, as above, and that
though he is in daily expectation of an answer from you, none no such answer is as yet
come. I am, Sir,
Your obedient humble Servt John Lloyd
