(1) Audit Office correspondence J.B. to Booth

1
J.B. to Mr Booth for Messrs Booth and Co at Park Iron Works
Sheffield

Queens Square Place Westmr 22 March 1808.

Sir
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter
dated 17th instant and directed to Mr Lloyd, together
with the desired receipt accompanying it. Unfortunately
I shall not, I fear, be able to transmitt it to the
Audit Board in the character of a Voucher, without
some explanations, for which I am under the necessity
of being thus troublesome to you.

The sum total which the receipt acknowledges
to have been received by you on account of such part of
the Iron as was intended for the Penitentiary House is
£1751:11s:9d. But, in looking over the particulars
according to the invoices, you find that of those
sums supposed to have been included in it viz:
the Feby 1795 £309:13s:7d, April 14th 1795 £231.14s.10d
and 22 Sept. 1795 £356:6s:0d the last viz
the £356:6s:9d proved upon examination not to have
been intended for the Penitentiary House, but to have
been for goods consisting of "Ships Keels Anchors &c
sent to Redbridge.

Now then the difficulty is this. In The sum
of £1751:11s.9 was what appeared to us from your
communication formerly received to be the total as near
as could be ascertained of the goods furnished by you
for the Penitentiary House. But in marking out this total,
the aforesaid sum of £356:6s.0d is included: hence
it seems to follow that the sum for which the receipt for the
£1751:11s 9d is given is too much by the sum of £356:6:0

1791.11.9
356:6:0
1395 5.9
