Answer
Query 3

By th
By the non-forthcomingness of these documents, I
have found myself subjected to very considerable prejudice
and inconvenience. I have had Mr Chief
Inspector's curiosity on this head to satisfy; at least rather
to endeavour to satisfy, and with very little hope
of success. But, by suppressing from the suppression of them, supposing them
suppressed by me by myself or any one else, it does not appear to me to be easy
to conceive w in what possible way, and with
any more than without, a fraudulent intention on
my part, I should receive could have derived or expected to derive any
advantage from it: the sort of evidence which by
certainly is the readiest in its nature the readiest and which in the estimate of Mr Chief Inspector, seems to be the
best evidence, or at least, comparatively superior evidence, being
as to those articles given unproducible, I am thus
reduced to take my chance, with what in the same
estimate seems to be regarded if not as inadmissible,
at any rate as comparatively speaking inferior evidence.
If Among the evidence if a part capable of which at one time I had it in
his my power to prove, & by different more articles of evidence than one,,
one part article happens to be lost to him me. The
loss being sustained, and that loss a pure misfortune
by which nothing could be got, to what good purpose
plagues he ply me with enquiries as to the cause of it?
Unfortunately for respondents Accountants to find return an answer
that shall cost hours or days or weeks, may
cost an a questioning Inspector not a quarter of
a minute.
