Answer
Query 3

11

I am now the better enabled to give make answer to the
Requisition the 2d above mentioned, by which I am the Accountant is required
"to furnish proof, that the articles, itemed in these extracts
"from the books, were actually received by him."

This proof I am enabled to furnish and do for the 2d time, the first being unnoticed + + Acct last sent on
14 July 1808 with a Letter
to Mr Secy Mallett
hereby
afford offer to furnish, in and by the testimony of Mr
John Lloyd, by whom the person already mentioned John Lloyd by whom in quality of Foreman under my said Brother, on the present occasion/in respect of the works in question,
the articles here in question were received; and by whom or under whose care, as they
successively came in, they were deposited at the wharf of
Messrs Campbel and White, to whom, for the custody of them these goods for about four years I paid the £50
this according to as per Item 3, which is the subject of Mr Chief
Inspector's fourth Query.

On this occasion a query an observation suggests itself as material
for me the Accountant, to submitt to the Board.
If the If to prove the receipt of the articles in question, the testimony of the person by whom they were received
is necessary sufficient it should be equally sufficient as
well for in regard to the articles of which the Invoices
are not forthcoming, as in regard to those of which the Invoices
are forthcoming: for they could not have been received
by Mr Lloyd, without having been sent by and from
somebody else.

The Invoices (it may for any aught I know, be said) will be still necessary:
viz. to prove the prices paid for the articles so received.
No, say I, not to prove the prices: for it is not necessary I do not know recollect, at any rate
that in the Invoices any mention of prices should actually
was, nor is it necessary that the it should have been contained. By the Invoices, supposing the prices
contained in to have been mentioned by them, all that could can have been ascertained
is — the prices d expected and demanded: as to the prices received,
that could only well appear from any other source that the instrument of receipt, coupled
with the Account so far as is necessary for the the Receipt. the Manufacturers Acct with myself ye Account
