offered, to take that either that spot so demanded by me,
and granted to me as aforesaid or any other. The taking of that spot
was declined: declined, that it in conduct, but never
on my express certainly in writing, nor so much as by word of
mouth, that I can recollect, in any express words: much
to obtain a reason, much labor was used
for this
virtual refusal, much labour was expended, and
<del.<?del> no inconsiderable quantity of ink and paper: but
no reason was ever given.
Of the statement, quoted</del. copied from my said Examination,
As above, no part, any more than of any other statement
therein contained, was ever controverted.
By a Treasury Letter sent in to the same
Committee, on the month preceding, || || 4 May 1798 and printed in
