In the same page, follows a Treasury letter written in consequence, P. 79
signed Charles Long, addressed to J. King Esqr 25 August 1800
of from in of which In which is the following passage. [is an extract].
"Their Lordships are of opinion that it would not be
"expedient to carry into effect this plan to the whole
"Extent proposed by Mr Bentham, but they submitt
"to his Grace, whether, by way of Experiment, it may be
"fit to carry it into Effect on a more limited Scale;
"or whether under all the Circumstances, it may be most
"advisable at the present Time to relinquish the Plan
"altogether. In the latter Event, their Lordships will feel
"it incumbent on them to make such compensation to
"Mr Bentham, as the Loss he has suffered in preparing
"for this Undertaking may appear to them to deserve.

Next, but with though at an interval of seven months,
there comes, in p.80, a Letter signed J. King P. 80.
and addressed Charles Long Esq., of in which is the following 17 March 1801
passage. "but whether it will be right to relinquish
"the Project altogether, and allow a liberal compensation
"to Mr Bentham, for any Loss he may have sustained,
"is a Point which must be determined by their Lordships...."
