∬. Satisfaction
Art 1. Modes of satisfaction are the following.

Satisfaction — modes
1 Vindictive follows
of course 1. from the
punishment 2 from the
burden imposed of yielding satisfaction
in other shapes
1. Vindictive. This follows of course &
without need of any operation performed for
the purpose — in the first place from the punishment,
if any; in the next place, from the
burden inseparably imposed by the obligation
of yielding satisfaction in any of its
other shapes.

2 X Vindictive — Attestation
by judge that
a supposedact prejudicial to wrong is asserted this course byin the offence
to have taken place, has
not taken place.
2. Attestative. The application of this mode
is confined to the case where, in consequence
of the offence some fact the belief of
which if believed would be productive of one
in some shape to the party wronged, which
said fact had not taken place as by something
said or done by the wrong doer been made to appear
where taken place. In this wasoperation by
which the satisfaction is afforded is an attestation
emanating from the judge, by
which it is declared & thereby proved that
the fact, the belief of which would, as above,
be prejudicial to the wronged, did
not, as supposed, take place.
