As soon as possible after Mr Blaquiere's return he was
engaged by the Committee to visit the several towns in
England where an interest had been expressed in favor of
the struggling Greeks to assist in the formation of branch Committees
to collect funds subscriptions & to give such information as his late
visit to Greece enabled him to communicate. Though
the Committee never anticipated that the funds they might
gather together, would in themselves suffice to supply the
wants of the Greek Government or to have a direct influence
on the result of the revolution, – yet they always deemed it
probable that they might assist the Greeks ultimately
in it raising a loan for the service of Greece, – and obtain
some additional guarantees for those disposed to make pecuniary advances
their funds to them, – while at the same time they wished they
would be enabled to the Loan so raised to the
absolute & efficient service of Greece, & prevent its becoming
an instrument of faction & or a subject of discord. On several
occasions the Committee deemed it necessary to interfere
when loans were brought forward supposedly to serve
the Greek cause, – and that interference effectually the Committee hope
put a stop to the attemptssuch was productive of some good and
prevented what might have been productive of much
mischief.
