I have got a plaguey wife
Cold & proud & prudish
And she harrasses my life –
Makes me rough & rudish
Everlasting squabbles rise
Twixt my maid & mistress
And Such squabbles a spirit in my eyes
Sorer than a blister is.

I can recollect the day –
But that day's departed
When I was serene & gay
Blest – the eager hearted –
Women may be angels – all –
Every one an angel –
So they were before the fall
But that fall did change all.
