The parts susceptible of the
The visible qualities in any object as we have observed are two. 1st
Figures 2dly Colour. 2dly Figure. In conformity to
this division, the punishment of Deformation may be performed under brought about in
either of two ways] [or susceptible of two ] 1st By Discolourment:
2dly By Disfigurement.
Discolourment may be either 1st Temporal Transient Temporary
or 2dly Permanent Perpetual. Transient, and or 2dly
Permanent: and that which is permanent may
again be either 1st Temporary Transient or 2dly Perpetual

Discolourment Simple orders of Punishment.
By Deformation I mean on the producing any alteration change
in the visible qualities of [the sufferers a mans] person
the effect of which is to render his aspect less agreeable:
and this without either Disablement or Mutilation, or
any other bad personal prejudicial effect upon his person; excepting
always so much bodily uneasiness as may be necessary to
the bringing about the change in question.
