on the Manchester Massacre – Sir Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> Wilson M.P.</p>
<p>"It (viz. the plan of Universal Suffrage and Annual<lb/>
Parliaments) "attracted the opposition of those who<lb/>
"possessed property, from a reluctance the most natural,<lb/>
"to place that property under the protection of<lb/>
"those who possessed none:  it was rendered the more<lb/>
"objectionable from the very reprehensible intolerance<lb/>
"with which its advocates pressed it."</p>
<p>Morn<hi rend="superscript">g</hi> Chron 26 Oct<hi rend="superscript">r.</hi> 1819 – Speaking of the depression<lb/>
of the Funds the Courier says – "But the vigorous measures<lb/>
"adopted by the Government, will restore the confidence<lb/>
"of the stockholder, and convince him and all classes of<lb/>
"the community, who have any thing to lose, that their properties<lb/>
"will not be surrendered to the Radicals."</p>
<p>Morn. Chron. 10 Sept<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> 1819.  At the Common Consul<lb/>
9 Oct<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> 1819<lb/>
Deputy Jacks – "And pray what kind of Reform did these<lb/>
persons wish for?  Why their professed object was Universal<lb/>
Suffrage, and Annual Parliaments and vote by<lb/>
Ballot.  Such was their object avowedly, which would certainly<lb/>
lead to a total subversion of the House of Commons.<lb/>
For when it was considered that the poor in<lb/>
the Country here so high a proportion to those who held<lb/>
property, then if every person was to have a vote what<lb/>
would become of property <hi rend="underline">in toto</hi>;  or where would its<lb/>
proper influence be?  The vote by Ballot had already<lb/>
been shewn in many cases to be very defective and<lb/>
corrupt;  as was well known."</p>

reprobates Monarchs impeccability.</p>
