subsequently two days in the week meeting at the
same hour till the whole was disposed of.
It naturally occurred to their Lordships that as this
regulation would occupy a great portion of
the Chancellor's time which would otherwise
have been devoted to his other judicial duties
it was necessary to provide for the dispatch
of the business of the Chancery, and thus accordingly recommended that another
Judge should be appointed in the Equity
Court. – All that they at present therefore was
that the Committee of the Lords conceived it
necessary that, in order to secure the attendance
of the Chancellor in the house of
peers without injury to the business suitors in
Chancery, and the equity judge should be
appointed with there should be another
judge with the rank of the Master of
the Rolls be doing
there should be another
Equity Judge, of a rank correspondent to that
of the Master of the Rolls – and to hold his
office for laf life. But it did not follow from
this that the Chancellor was to be deprived of the
cognizance of all original causes. The Report
had not entered at all into that question.
It was a matter not yet decided upon in
any quarter – and one which might be discussed
afterwards if any such regulation
should appear in the Bill which recommended
by their Lordships.
