that there were very were delays
in Chancery he considered it as
extremely unfair to enter into a comparison
between the noble and learned Lord who
those now held the seals – and
those learned judges who preceded him. –
The Report of the Lords had indeed somewhat
disappointed him for his opinion
was that the business of he Court had
increased beyond what appeared from
that the Report. He took that fact from his
own experience during the 22 years
he had practised in the Court of Chancery
before different Chancellors. In consequence
of the increasing wealth of the country
the number of family settlements were
continually increasing and this circumstance
added much to the
business in the Court of Chancery. –
He did not think that the delay in hearing
the causes was the source of the
increase, of motions. Motions
would be more or less numerous
according as the character of the Judge
was higher or lower – and he believed
there never was a judge in that Court
more distinguished for his enlarged
