Mr. Adam was satisfyed that
the proposed measure of creating
a new Master of the Rolls would be
a cause of delay and not of
expedition. It would not diminish
the business of the Chancellor but increase
the number of appeals as the suitors
would be anxious to repair to the
last resort, while it would impose
a new expence on the public and
place additional patronage in the
hands of the crown. The Court of Chancery
as now is constituted was fully
competent to the dispatch of all its
business. The Master of the Rolls
at present only sat in the evening.
What was to hinder him from
sitting in the morning at the
same time time with the Chancellor?
If that plan were adopted he
was fully persuaded that with the
great talents of the Master of the
Rolls the evil would very soon
