of the Royal Society who were with me.

In all other respects I think they are
well provided for.

The cloathing seemed to be good. Some
was sent by their friends and some by government.

Their bread was good: not the finest
white bread. We took some of it to the Tavern,
I preferred it to the other bread.

The Convicts had only one Coverlid;
some undressed themselves to go to bed.

There were very few sick when I was
there. There were Physicians with me: so that
I did not attend to the sick.

My visit was not expected. I wrote
to Mr Campbell, but the note was lost; and
Mr Campbell not being on shore, it was with
difficulty I could get on board. When I got
there the Convicts were at dinner. When they
were order'd upon deck I looked at them over
the bulk-head; I could not see whether they had
their Irons on. We thought they looked to us
as well as several ships companies looked. There
were Sea-Officers with me.

The 1st time I was there was on the
17 June 1777: the 2d time in July or August:
the 3d time in August or Septr in the
same year.

The Convicts were rather more healthful
the 1st time I was there than they were
the 2d: as several were in the Infirmary.
