if as terminating as in him or him having its termination in him that is
in his person it should be prescribed that the another
add to ways in which an way must be admitted
in which an offence may be said to terminate
in a man's person besides terminating in his
body: and the impression of an act of this
sort touches upon his mind may be considered
as the termination of the act. In this case⊞ ⊞ the same act may be considered as having said to have two different terminations: the one which may be termed its physical termin the other its pathological termination.
the word termination may be used in two senses:
in one sense it may be stiled the physical
termination of the act: in the other the pathological. Now it is the pathological termination
of it only that is in itself material in itself:
it's physical termination is so no otherwise than
in virtue of the pathological effects by which
follow it it is followed: with this interpretation then any
act may be consider'd as having it's termination
in the person of a man which is an
act of punishment. It is in this sense way only
that any punishment which is not a corporal
can be said to be inflicted upon a man
in the strict and original sense of the word
upon.
