Sleep my sweet infant – close they eyes
Sleep my sweet infant – sweet calmly sleep:
Thy mother cannot bear thy cries
And she has other cause to weep –

When the most fond words thy father spoke
Sound truth & honors holiest vow
And every that from thought & every look
I deemed pure & innocent as thou
And but each oath was every pledge he broke –
Child – mother are forgotten now.
Sleep &c

But wake my as my sleeping child
And let they make me with they gentle smile let they bless smell my bosom
so thy faithless father smiled
Such was his look of tenderness –
He knew his power – when he beguild
And used it – used it - merciless!
Sleep
