By erasing out the erasure of the Memorial these words,
the Honourable Gentleman would have left the Memorial
in a state affording a just ground for
so desirable an imputation. Any such erasure
is what I should have no expectation of finding
the marks of: for the plain reason because
the erasure would present itself to the eyes not only
of the Honourable Gentleman but other eyes
officially and habitually privy to the Official documents
of all sorts, or the character of a palpable
and punishable forgery.

On the subject of the allowance for building, I
say in the body of the Memorial in speaking of the encreased sum mentioned in that behalf
I what I say in the body of the Memorial is
"which sum Your Memorialist flatters himself
"will not appear to Your Lordships, to be unreasonable
".
In this plan, on the one hand I do not say as before that
if from this sum be any deduction be made, "it will
"be impossible for me to perform the undertaking
"[with equal benefit to the public or myself]
" on the
other hand neither do I sa expressly say,
that if should any "I am content to submitt
"to any abatement, which it may be their Lordships "pleasure to prescribe
".
