Insidious Letter

Such being the letter Your Lordship may
feel a curiosity perhaps begin to feel some curiosity to learn the
answer made to it. My Lord I made
no answer to it: and after a moment or two
of reflection, Your Lordship will not be much surprized.

In the first place, who was there to answer?
to whom was the any answer to be addressed –
not in form I mean – but in substance.
The contriver – the writer of the letter – the
only individual perhaps who knew any
thing of the contents of the letter except
the Clerk who copied it – or remembered what
little might have been remembered by any body
of the transactions that had preceded it – Mr
Long in a word . M One Secretary Mr Long gave the
other Secretary gave the Chief Member Lord :
the Members Lords gave – one or two excepted
of their Lordships – whose information knowledge about the
business, when out of in curtesy it was now and
then asked for, used to be drawn inquired about from me.

But why I made gave no answer to it will be
more fully seen after Your Lordship has read
the Minutes.

In the net place, to what end should I
have answered it? A question this, the answer
to which will be the more fully understood, in from a
succeeding section, after when Your Lordship has read the
Minutes.
