C
Of punishment in general

Exemptions
Lapse of time

Why punishment the above offences under the above exceptions are discharged
from punishment by a lapse of six months.

1. Because the
event shows there
is no mischief

1. Because if there be no prosecution in all
that time it shows that punishment is either ground-less
---page break---
or needless or both: since it shows the party who
at his ease  : which being the case, there is no primary mischief. How
it was the best of the offence is in general if he
is satisfied it <unclear><unclear><unclear> so with every body
else he <unclear><unclear> will therefore be no <unclear> secondary
mischief. He may be <unclear> at his ease either because his
offence was originally as slight as not to be <unclear> regarding; or because <unclear><unclear> have been what it will the offender may have <unclear>
A <unclear> to <unclear><unclear> given him satisfaction. It is
to be observed that the apprehension of punishment
is itself a punishment.
