12. Considered each by
itself, the shorter the
articles the better: as
imposing the less burthen
on conception and memory.
But by this brevity
of the elements, brevity
of the aggregate is diminished.

13. Exemplification
Say, to one adjective
ten adjectives: or, to one
verb, ten substantives.
In either cases, to maximize
individual brevity,
the article would
be divided into ten:
and in each, to complete
the proposition &
sentence, each such adjective
or substantive
would require its
complement of other

Reasons.
1. By such conjunction,
the reader led to consider
the two sentences, as favouring
forming but one
proposition: and to get at
the supposed latter part
of the import of the whole
hurries itself over the former
part, without giving
to it the proper separate
consideration, and thus
confuses itself.
2. Without the other,
neither can be repeated
by numerical reference,
nor otherwise than by
description.

Form II. 11 17.
17. In a principal proposition
imbed not
exceptive or otherwise modificative
clauses more
than one.

Reason. The mind is
hurried through, and confused,
as per Art 16.

Form II 12 18.
18. Of an article composed
of exceptions,
give notice at the
commencement of the
article, composed of the
principal propositions
out of which they are
taken.

Reason. By the notice
given, preserving the
reader from the momentary
error of ascribing
to the arrangement
an extent beyond
that intended.
