§. Mischief of Sinecures – general view
§. General view of the mischief produced by Sinecures.

As to the aggregate mischief produced by the list of Sinecures
composed as it is at present, it is composed of the such distinguishable mischiefs as are produced by the
different species as classes of sinecure distinguished as
above: in such sort that if there be any peculiar
sort of mischief attached exclusively to any one of
those species, so long as there continues to be any individual
of that species in existence, so long will that
sort of mischief continue in existence. But if
that species wee abolished altogether, that species of
mischief would vanish along with it. But so long
as any individu of that species there be any individual which
remains unabolished, so long it is just true and proper
to ascribe charge that species of mischief upon the whole
list of sinecures taken together, and thence upon
the sinecure system, though not upon every individual
sinecure separately considered.
