Constitutional CodeCh. XI Ministers jointly
§. 11 Remuneration Factitious honor.

Rationale

Question. Why exclude factitious honor and dignity
from the treasury of reward?

I. Reason for its exclusion.
1. Answer

1. Because it is useless to the purpose of procuring public
service it is needless: other appropriate means of producing
that effect not being wanting.

2. Because it is useless: not having any tendency to
produce that same effect.

3. Because it it is worse that useless, to wit pernicious,
productive of each evil in various shapes, and to
a large amount

4. Non productive of good in any other shape

2. Antecedently to the proof of the above propositions, it
seems
some explanation in respect of its nature
and mode of operation seems requisite.

The heads, under which the inquiry will be conducted
are as follows –

1. Factitious honor or dignity - its nature.

2. Main causes of the evil produced by it. 1. the judgment p.
arbitrary: 2. the patron a person whose interest is opposite to
the universal interest. p.

3. Parties to interested in the transaction by which it is produced. p.

4. Conception necessary necessarily to be produced in on the part mind of the people
in the patro and of the patron or his instruments existence of favour kindness toward the dignitry: in that
of the dignitry, excellence and its kindred meritbook explained. p. 3 4.

5. Shades of favour or kindness expressed by different
signs. p.

6. Ulterior Third conception – that of the existence of power
or opulence or both in the dignitary in the person of the dignitry of
with other persons possessed of objects of desire, in on
the person part of the dignitary.
