Real§. 11 Humphreys Interrogation

When Before the second edition of his work was
out of the press – I believe rather believe before the printing
or even the writing of it was commenced my Remarks a copy of my observations
on his first edition were in his hands. For my expectation
of seeing a very extensive notice of it taken by him I had no
strong ground as the of the case without the addition of an assurance to that effect
from himself, it was cause for a man to have. From With the
constituted authority superior authority I had and my endeavours obtaining
of notice for his works at the hands of the superior constituted authority my endeavours had been zealous and
had not been wholly unsuccessful. Hew knew of this, and
has had heard in and the most friendly at as put at least and confident.

On every part of the common field they suggestions have
will be found accompanied with reasons: in every part,
those parts consequently included on which my view of the matter
have different differ from that taken by him his as given in the first edition; and
those in which how his view of the matter has different differs from
that taken by me his, as given in his second edition, differs from mine as above: if, in relation to the several
points of difference, invitation be given to him to assign his
reasons, those reasons, so far as given will of course
be enormously instructive: so in so far as with after invitation
none are given, his silence if on any instance with-holden, not much less so in the opposite case his silence. A circumstance by which whatsoever
demand there may be for such invitation can not but be increased
is – that in his that same second edition of his work no mention
is made of mine.
