Black said that Brougham could not get on without
jobbing – that there were so many hungry people to be
satisfied – so many men to whom he had made promises
that he could not break – that there would have been
so much disappointment and irritation. He said that
he Black did not understand the matter – nor the merits of the
discussion between Bentham & Brougham – He
understood Barnes had written the attack in the
Times which he said was foolish & wit-less though
professing to be witty. He said, the passing of the Bankrupt
Court Bill was a very hard push.
