J.B. to Peel on JuriesCh. Jury Packing(1)

Private
On the Establishment, instead of the abolition,
of the practice of packing Juries.

Sir,

As the subject of letter has for its subject
a matter which is not only of prime importance but
will through some channel or other be brought before find its way into
Parliament, it would be affectation in me to speak of
it as being of a nature to be regarded by you with
indifference. Yes, Sir: instead of being abolished,
(which, as far as I can learn is the general wish general wish), the practice
of packing Juries, has been established: established
by Act of Parliament: passed in conformity of the
to the Bill brought in by you. My fears lead me to

this effect of it: the enclosed paper pages will show the ground of them: my wishes hopes look the
contrary way: the reader of this letter will substitute
certainty to doubt and anxiety

amendment made on it: one form for which is
proposed by the hand by which the demand for it is .
In this case it will be more agreeable to you, I
should supposed to be yourself the apparently spontaneous proposer of the amendment
than to see it brought on the carpet by a relatively
hostile hand. I write this accordingly to say
that if it be agr more agreeable to you to bring the
matter before Parliament and to give me an opinion
to that effect, I shall with the sincerest pleasure see it
take that course: but if it be more matter of indifference
to you, or if it would be more agreeable to see it brought forward
by an adverse hand, as being proposed to not defend the Bill
against or in support
