on this supposition the motive is the good in all shapes obtainable<lb/>
– not for the £10, but for the £1, if gratuitously, then is it<lb/>
not the £10 but either the pleasure of sympathy resulting from<lb/>
the contemplation of the good in all shapes about to result<lb/>
from the possession of the £10 by the person on whose behalf the<lb/>
application is made, or else the expectation of <del>some</del> good<lb/>
in some <del><gap/></del> other shape expected <del>form</del> <add>from whatever motive</add> at the hands<lb/>
of the person on whose behalf the application is made.</p>
