1825. May 12
Procedure CodeCh. Evidence
§. Procurable law

The pretence

I am aware of what you say should the Judge
have said to the debtor – I see the he has upon his mind
and therefore I shall not give him compleat and exclusive
evidence. I shall hear first what he has to say for himself: and then
you what you have to say for yourself. If he has a
on his mind so have you on yours. I shall no more listen
to your calamity than to your calumny. I will hear what
he says for himself when you have at in my presence
perhaps you will not think fit to deny it. If so, should not
I have done any wrong had I refused to hear it. If what he
assumes you deny I shall be sorry: because in that case
the danger is that of your that of the futility of which
he is . But what that is, it is impossible for me
to judge on any sufficient grounds until I have
of you.
