Ends of justice two
inducements for pursuing
them when not counteracted
by sinister interest
But the ends of justice — were on no occasion were they —
have they been — ever in view? Without exception an answer
in the affirmative would be over-extensive overstretching. Two inducement makers
may be assigned, by each of which, when not urged in the
opposite direction by sinister interest on one or other of the
above shapes, they would naturally be acted upon in an direction
conducive to the ends of justice.

1. In so far as they beheld themselves exposed to suffer
from Offences criminal or culpable or criminal, they would be
acted upon prompted to pursue such a course as would might
afford them security against evil from those sources: their own security and the
protection security that an interest in this respect they gave to themselves it would the nature of the
case would not admitt of them separating keeping separate in such sort
that in the no other persons but themselves or such as were
connected with them by special use of self-regarding interest or sympathy
should have the benefit in a greater or less degree
share have part in the benefit
