produces any apprehension worth regarding.

One inconvenience an offence of this sort has
a tendency to produce, which may be placed to
the account of the mischief of the third order.
When a man has been thus imposed upon, he
is apt to be suspicious, and to close his heart
against any address which is made to his compassion.
An incident of this sort and has a natural
tendency to blunt the sensibility of his disposition,
and damp the warmth of his benevolence.
It also At any rate it lessens his pecuniary ability. to afford
relief to the distressed: so much as he has given to
the impostor, so much less has he to give to those
whose claim is unexceptionable.

It is to be observed, that in addition to
the fraud, there is almost always in such cases
the offence of idleness, which almost always adheres as of
accompanies course to the occupation of a beggar. See
Tit. [Idleness]
