What motive can they have for wishing to punish a
Judge unjustly? What motive can they have for
wishing to punish a Judge who has not acted contrary
to their will, or if he has has done so without
knowing it and will not do so again? Suppose
them even to be capable of being determined not by the pure
motive of ensuring efficacy to the law but by
the corrupt motive of resentment: what room where can
can there be resentment be for resentment where there is no
injury?

Even the English law with all its little jealousies
scruples not to effect this junction in cases where
though not very likely it is much more likely
to be abused. In many instance Nothing more common Numerous are
than to allow the instances in which it allows a single Justice
of the Peace to convict on view, he himself the prosecutor
and he the only witness.
