ton in the bin; the labour & we of the premiers are charged at a rate
very much below the ordinary rate of payment— the total rate
per ton of the vessel produced is a vessel very well able
to carry guns which will make it equal in force to any of the
gun brigs, though this vessel (including the £50 unnecessary pounds) comes
to nor more than £ per ton.
"Nr 39, Mr Poores account" Before I enter into the parti-
-culars of Mr Poores account, it may be necessary to observe that
I did require particulars from him, but observing at the same time
that "he best knew what would required" this I supposed he would
be well acquainted with, in consequence of his frequent mercantile
transaction with the Noz; & I have all along held up to him
that the noz would have to examine there accounts, & they they
would probably be scrutinized with an unusual degree of at ten-
tion
Article 4 "leach paid" I request an explanation of the Ntz obser
vations on this head, as I am at a loss to make up any num
of the amount of 266.11.2 for which no services are mentioned.
A5 "Wages" The particulars are now specified, but I must observe
that the rate of payment way very much enhanced, by the
difficulties made in the Sy to the lending of there man of the
outlet of the barrack, which these men thought
themselves justified in refusing to work at Redbridge for less
than the exorbitant sum of 9 shillings per day.
Article, "7 to 11 inclusive. These charges I myself thought exorbitant
& took no small pains to induce Mr Poore to diminish them but
without effect. Mr Poore alleges that they are made at a rate similar to what
other merchants & builders would have charged; & I must confess that there seems
reason upon examination into the prices paid by Government for the
building & repairs of vessels to believe that the profits of individuals
cannot in many instances have been less.
