The direction accordingly which I returned was -
To the gentleman in question (mentioning his name)
"is either the Secretary to the Commissioners of Audit."
The request Whatever may have been the object, some
object the request in question determinate object, the <add> in intimation is worded </add> could not but have had.
The object, which, supposing it ( for argument sake) preferred, would not have
in my view of the matter have been fit to be fulfilled, viz.
the rendering it a matter of doubt, by whom such packets
as might in future have come from as had been received
and opened, I took care, as above should not be fulfilled.
Was it that the gentleman in question having obtained
a furlough temporary relief from the fatigues
of office, a substitute, perhaps the opening of the
such packets, would for a time fall to the lot of a
substitute, and one perhaps as yet not fixed upon?
