The weight of it, however great, will be no impediment to its being
raised, and that by a single man hand. with useful
ease. It must however be furnished in this case with a
counterpoise, and the counterpoise with an upright to which it must be connected by
pillar and a horizontal beam playing upon an
upright pillar. If to save the expence in the counterpoise,
it to be made to act upon the principle of a steelyard,
the beam must consequently be so much the longer and consequently
the stronger.

To enable the operator to see the processes as
they go on, this chamber may have glass windows to
it: but it is evident the glass must be thick, to
enable it to resist the pressure of the atmosphere, and
must be fitted in in the closed manner.

Whatever apertures are made in the particular
process in view may require to be made in it, the
smaller they are made the better, the difficulty of closefitting
increasing with the size.

For the closing of these apertures the expedients
already in practice may suffice.
