Thus much the Auther has premised for our instruction,
concerning Laws in General. He had ambition
and a generous disdain for Special Pleaders and
Attornies Pupils, whose Stock of knowledge is included
in the desk they write on. He seem'd to tread in the footsteps of profane

He had prudence and penetration and was resolved to lay his foundations
sure. He resolved to clamber ascend up to the heights of
Theology and Pulpit-Metaphysics to fetch materials
for it of due solidity. Foundations thus made
