[it is] unjust against the Wolf or the Fox,
anymore than the things or the for obeying the necessity of his nature, to these
such a of disposition, as may either awe

For this cause I have thought it necessary to develop
the causes that circumstances concur to give this necessarybias
to persons circumstanced as they are, that othermen
may found the conduct recommended not on spleen
or prejudice, but on a calm Judgment founded on
obvious & incontestible considerations, pronounced
"en connoissance de cause."
