Queen's Coll. June 22'd 1763
Hon'd Sir
Just now Mr Jefferson has informed
me that the time for carrying in the Verses is
fixed for next Saturday, and that after that day
none will be accepted on any account, so that it
is absolutely necessary for me to have mine by
that day; so that I must beg you will be so kind
as to get them out of the hands of your learned
revisers: the persons that are appointed Inspectors,
are Messrs Wheeler of Magdalen, and
Stinton of Exeter Colleges: what gives me encouragement
is, that I find, that is not absolutely
necessary for the compositions to be quite perfect,
as these Gentlemen are appointed to correct and
amend as well as mark the faults.
