"I return your papers with sincere thanks.
The Perusal of them has been both amusing &&instructive
to me,& yet I did not want the aid of your acuteness
& abilities to enable me to see that the project in
question is a fallacy. The statement however both
in its original & corrected publication, carries
with it and air of such earnestness & right meaning,
that its author appears to me to have deceived
himself before he exerted his ingenuity to
deceive others -
"If the notes proposed to be issue
d are to
be payable on demand, I do not see how they
differ from any other circulating Paper,
dependant partly on Confidence, & partly on a
lodged security - If they are not to be payable
on demand, it is evident that they
cannot obtain a circulation, & the project
of course will be abortive.
"I have reason to believe that there exists
no doubt in the Quarter to which your appear to
