Here, if there were room, might be the place to speak
of the distictn between virtue in that share in which
it is by persons other than the agent himself that the
benefit of it is considered as being reaped and virtue
in that share in whh. it is by the agent himself
and him alone that it is considered as being reaped:
in a word between effective benevolence which may be
the name of the modification of virtue in the one
case and self-regarding prudence in the other case.
