In the year 1789 appeared the Introduction to the
Principles of Morals & Litigation. Here for the first time are
pains & pleasures separately defined, - & regularly grouped - and the
classification & definition of them is so complete for all ordinary
of moral & legislative investigation that Mr Bentham has
found little to modify, - or to add to in the list.
