Ins. Offences against Condition — Adultery

55.

From p. 15. Ins. Morality loose x rigid According to the rigid system this practise is
reprobated absolutely and with a very high degree
of censure. It is reprobated were it only on the
footing of fornication; but besides that it is reprobated
on a footing of it's own.

56.

Loose — the Woman According to the loose system it is reprobated
or not, and where it is reprobated it is reprobated
with a degree of censure more or less severe, according
to circumstances. In the woman, it is
condemned in the general even here: but some
allowance is made in case of any flagrant instance
of cruelty or neglect on the part of the
Husband; in which cases it is censured rather as
a violation of modesty than of social duty: accordingly
it is the more censured according as it
becomes more public either by the fault of the woman
or by her misfortune.
