Of Polygamy.

Extenuation Excuse I. Wife's Consciousness.

Excuse I. Criminal consciousness on the part of the wife Where the second [or other subsequent new] Wife knew of the
continuance of a former Marriage.

Infra-punishment In this case he shall not make her Compensation: and
he shall only be punished with the Polygamist's Yoke.

Other Excuses are — 2. Desertion ab initio. 3. Desertion
ex post facto: both as in Adultery: which See. 4. Ignorance of
the Law. 5. Innocence of Intention. 6. Intoxication. 7. Compulsion.
8. Deference to Authority.

Compensation.

Restitution 1. The Offender shall be made to refund to the second Woman
whatever fortune he had with her, or so much of it as is left.

Farther Compensation. 2. If his circumstances admit of it and her circumstances require
it, he shall be compelled to make her farther compensation:
according to Tit. Compensation. .

Provision for Children. 3. If he have children by her, he may be compelled in the same
manner to provide maintenance for such Children.

Compensation to a Virgin. 4. If the second or any subsequent woman were a virgin when
he married her, let the compensation he is compelled to make to her
